Abstract:
Begins with a discussion of the Cocke family's Elizabethan roots. Proceeds to examine Bremo mansion and what influenced its builder, Virginian planter and amateur architect John Hartwell Cocke (1780-1866), whose style evolved from Jeffersonian Classicism to a revival of English Tudor-Stuart or Jacobean architecture.
